2025 Japan foliage Forecast
Each year, for the spring and the fall, the Japan Metereological Corporation releases forecasts. The data is collected from 700 viewing locations throughout the country.
Japan had their hottest summer ever recorded this year. This means, that like last year, fall colors will be later than they have historically ben. So instead of October and November, fall colors happen in November and December.
The fall forecast shows both yellow (gingko) and red (maple) estimates throughout the country. Colors change begin in Northern Japan in Hokkaido and move south. This year the forecast of yellod and red foliage isn’t too different, so it’s a nice overlap if you time it well.

If you’ve been wanting to see Japan in all its fall beauty, depending on where you’re planning to visit in Japan, you’ll want to aim for dates of the first week of November and the first week of December. Japan maple during in fall is an exquisite experience.
To get off the beaten path, consider Northern Japan, and cities or regions outside of Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka. Look into regions such Shikoku, and Kyushu.
It’s an opportunity to get travel before or during the Thanksgiving holiday.
